So, in a lot of places that you're going to be in the world encrypt me will have a server right beside you um, so that's always useful to have in terms of proximity and in terms of just being able to go to other spots. Now, when it comes to encryption with encrypt me uh, they do pretty well. They have the state-of-the-art 256-bit aes encryption, so you're good to go in that sense when it comes to protocols you're using openvpn, which of course gives you access to a number of other configurations. Of course, we would love to have seen wire guard one of the newer protocols, another faster protocols out there on the market today uh, but that is not yet the case with encrypt me now. The next thing we'd like to go over are the core features. Now the first thing we're going to look at is kill, switch and, yes, there's a kill, switch. Your data packets are safe, you're good to go when it comes to. You know something happening to the vpn and your stuff being exposed not going to happen now when it comes to split tunneling. Our second feature you're not going to get full access to that. So if you want a split tunnel, you might be out of luck depending on where you are and what you're doing next we look at torrenting and once again, torrenting with encrypt me is just not ideal. If that is really important to you again, you don't want to look at encrypt me. That'S just not what they're built for finally come to streaming services encrypt me does not do a ton of unblocking, so if you're trying to get around something originally or anything of that nature, uh encrypt me is probably not the vpn that you're going to want to Go with so keep that in mind if you're really trying to capture you know something that is on us. Netflix encrypt me, not the one. Let'S talk about those tests. Now i've taken a lot of tests in my life uh the bar exam being a major one. Uh and i want to just look at how they perform on tests and yeah when it comes to encrypt me, pass our webrtc leak test, our dns leak test and, let's dive into the speed test. So with encrypt me. You know all the continents, if possible, um, they don't have anything on antarctica. Yet i haven't seen that anywhere. But for africa i was able to get johannesburg and that was 139 megabits per second download speed and i was able to get 72 mega per second upload speed. So really not that bad um. You know i miss joe berg, that's a really fun place um. So that's the speeds i was getting for encrypt me just across the board. Pretty solid speeds um in that whole experience all right. So let's jump into my experience on the encrypted web application. So the first thing i have to note right off the bat that always confuses me about encrypt me when i use it again is the fact that you go into a location. So if i go into a location like let's say japan now, it says currently selected japan and you're, saying oh okay, uh that's great, but then you go to be in japan and you're not there. And why is that? Because you seem, as you say currently selected, you should be working, even if you hit done after it should work, but now you have to go in and connect and when you go and connect that is what's actually going to send you to japan. Now it's just an extra step. It'S just two steps, one plus one two, not that much, but because it's so different than everything else, i'm accustomed to. I honestly make the mistake. Far too often, maybe this is you know my uh problem of thinking, i'm in a certain private tunnel and then i go and i'm not because i haven't gone back to hit that other button and that is different than every other uh vpn that i've seen out In the market, i'm pretty sure, so that's my one thing with encrypt me when i right off the bat always bothers me about the mobile application. That being said, what i love about the mob application, so let's go back, it's a transporter and i i think that's maybe like a star trek reference um, i have a little a little enterprise i'll, bring this enterprise down uh i love star trek. I mean it's just great, but anyway i digress. So let's go ahead and see what other experiences like i can easily go in jump into. You know chechia. I can jump into hungary. I can jump into iceland and remember. I have to go back on encrypt for a second, so now i'm in iceland - i imagine i'm in raikshavik, so that's kind of how encrypted works. You go down. You transport, it's pretty cool south america. I can go to argentina. Go done. Get out of here. Go back so overall, pretty straightforward experience with encrypt me and if we go and look at our settings, you'll note that there's really not a lot else going on uh inside of here so anyway. That'S the experience that you're going to have with encrypt me. So remember it's a two-step process for joining any location, but overall, when you do get in there, it's fine, but i do think they should maybe rethink that basic functionality. In summary, encrypt me does have some things going for it uh, definitely, but in a lot of areas it's um really lacking and it's gon na be very dependent on the person. Well, that's what a vpn is going to help me to do it's going to basically set my ip address to be in another space, so a lot of utility and vpns and encrypt me does give you a respectable number of places to go. It has over 70 locations in 40 countries, so if i need to be in japan, i can be there if i need to be in new delhi mumbai. I can be there with encrypt me so really a lot of utility in that uh for me, um and, like i said, a respectable number of cities. Now, starting off with my iphone numbers here in new york, my control test, meaning without encrypt means vpn toggled on. I was able to get 135 megabytes per second download speed and 92 megabits per second upload speed. Now i went a little further north of the border to montreal, where i was able to get a download speed of 54 megabytes per second and an upload speed of 99 megabits per second, so somehow it actually increased. My speed uh from when i took that control test. When i went over to johannesburg, south africa, i got download speeds of 34 megabytes per second and upload speeds of 13 megabytes per second, so a lot of variability, as you can see on my iphone here in new york, now moving over to our imac testing on The west coast, i was able to get a control speed of 251 megabytes per second download, but just 22 megabytes per second upload. So a lot a lot of gap there uh. When i went over to paris from this location uh, we got 141 megabytes per second download speed and 21 megabytes per second upload speed. Switzerland game us 190 megabytes per second download speed and 20 megabytes per second upload speed. And finally, brazil gave us a speed of 165 megabytes per second download speed and 14 megabytes per second upload speed, as you can see, with the imac we're able to get pretty solid speeds, even while using encrypt me vpn briefly i'll talk about the plan options with Encrypt me now with encrypt me: you of course have the opportunity to buy a month pass or a year pass, but what's cool about encrypt me, it gives you the ability to buy your vpn for just a week and if you would like even more flexibility for You or those around you, they have family plans, they have team plans if you know you're part of some type of team that you know really necessitates using vpn, which is probably most teams uh. My brother studied in south africa visited really nice and i can switch over into south africa and now i'm connected to a johannesburg server. Now, if i were to decide to go into another space like let's say europe place, we frequent often here at security.org is paris. So let's go down to france and you know you have a couple of options when it comes to france in terms of cities where they have servers, so you have bokeh and you have paris uh and i can dive into paris and it's going to go ahead And change me over from south africa uh to france, uh inside of the encrypt me application now. Finally, uh you do have a few other spaces where you have uh different locations in terms of uh more than one city, so you of course got you know. South america and the various countries, but when it comes to multiple cities in one space, it's actually interesting that you have canada. So in canada you have montreal toronto and vancouver all available all lovely cities, so we're going to jump into montreal, which is not too far from us here in new york. Uh you'll see that now i'm connecting to that and i'm secure and for all intents and purposes my location is canada. So that's our look at the pretty bare bones: uh minimalist, let's say: uh mobile application for encrypt me now, let's check out and encrypt me on my mac, so you'll see that right at the top. It tells you what network you're connected to and from there you can decide to secure my connection, and that is going to put you into the encryptment vpn, allowing you to enable it and now you're masking your location. Now, if i wanted to see other places that i can go to from asking my location, i go to that top left hand corner and you'll see that there are a ton of different locations available to you, or at least a significant number of locations available to You so you have africa with nigerian south africa asia with about seven countries there and you'll note that india gives you a couple of different options. You have mumbai and new delhi along with you, know, japan, philippines uh generally, then you have europe, north america and what's great about the north american one is that both canada and united states give you multiple locations to dive into so i can be in montreal or Toronto or vancouver in the united states, i can be and really a lot of cities from my hometown of nashville uh to the nation's capital, to hotlanta uh, to where i actually am in new york city, and you also get a little bit of flexibility. Diversity. Um of location when it comes to where you'd like to be in australia from brisbane to melbourne, to perth uh to sydney so really like that they make it pretty straightforward. Give you that continental! Look that kind of breaks things up a bit uh in terms of what we've seen from vpns. So if you jump into the upper right hand corner where you see that gear you'll actually be able to jump into some of the advanced options and they're, you know keeping it pretty minimal, you have the ability to change your connection protocol from udp, which is a Little bit better for performance to tcp or just toggle, between the two as you see fit. So that's my look at encrypt me's mac app. So let's wrap it up today and i'll give you my final thoughts on encrypt me now. Encrypt me does a great job of allowing me gabe to be anywhere. I want to be in the world and mask my location uh, just by tapping on that toggle on and off, and i secure i encrypt i'm in a different place and that's really useful. Now is it giving me the most advanced features? No, if you're the kind of person who wants to you know have specific bittorrent server setup, a specific streaming server setup, um you're, not the target market for encrypt me. This is for the person who needs. You know access to about 40 countries who wants to be able to jump in easily and who wants to be able to. You know, use it to match their location. They do that admirably, not the most robust, comprehensive vpn out there, but if you just want to get on the internet with an unlimited number of devices, unlimited number of connections with decent speeds, uh you're gon na get that with encrypt me. I'm looking to replace Windscribe, I've tried a couple of VPN's. Here's what I found.

I use Haugene Transmission on my NAS with PIA to torrent currently. Recently some changes they've made to how their port forwarding works has caused my port to read as closed, which means I basically can't seed anything to private trackers.

Combined with PIA's acquisition by Kape, I'm considering hopping off for a different VPN provider. Nord and ExpressVPN come highly recommended, but googling tells me they don't support port forwarding at all for security reasons.

Any recommendations? Ideally from someone who uses a similar setup for private tracker torrenting.

Hey, what's up guys, my name is Thomas Park. Welcome back to another video interview today, we're gon na be checking out. Hideout me it's been around since 2012. It'S not the biggest VPN provider, and I'm surprised I haven't checked it out here on the channel. Yet I did do a review of it in 2016, but it's been around for years or so. So I thought it'd be worth it to make a new review, ranked it on the VPN tearless comm anyways, guys, let's get into the review, hey guys, just a reminder to check out VPN tearless comm, it's a collection of all my ratings on the channel and you're Gon na find lots of helpful information here on how to choose a VPN anyways back to the video so guys. Hi dummies at first glance seems like a really well-priced VPN. You get 10 simultaneous connections, a decent amount of worldwide locations and, of course, unlimited data transfer. For only $ 5, a month with a 30 day, money back guarantee not only that there's also a free model with 2 gigabytes limit per month, one simultaneous connection in five locations to pick from I'll discuss. Some of the limitations here are the locations later on. In the apke section, but I want to talk a little bit more about the pricing, because when you click on it, you're gon na actually see it expanded more and you'll see that you only get $ 5 a month after you purchase to eat all 2 years. So you're gon na have to pay 130 dollars up front. I don't really like how they did like the two-step pricing page they're, how to prefer this being the main pricing page, because I think it's more transparent. But overall, though guys the main plan here is gon na be $ 13. The one-year plan is gon na be $ 99 and of course, two years is going to be around $ 130. So there's not really much point in buying this plan. However, on the channel, I never really recommend users to buy two to three year plans, because it's too long enough commitment model ID I mean, could easily be bought out by some other company. They could change the company policies or do whatever they want after 30 days. Since they'll have your money, but guys this is very similar to expressvpn, in that it's very expensive for one month to pretty expensive for one year $ 13 in $ 100, I think is just simply too expensive in the modern and VPN marketplace. I think at most you should be around 8 to 10 dollars a month, and maybe for one year somewhere between 50 to 70 dollars is more of a fair price hundred dollars. Just seems like too much now keep in mind. You do get ten simultaneous devices. A little bit more than some other VPN providers, but still not worth the cost. I don't think anyways guys, let's go on to the next section, being the application, alright guys. So this is what Jaime's application looks like. I actually quite like the look of it. It'S got a nice kind of simple blue interface down here. You can also pick the different servers. Now, if you do the trial version, you're gon na be limited to you know what servers you could pick, but I think overall they should be okay for testing. You know you won't be able to do p2p, for example, but for testing. I think it's okay. We also get favorite servers and stuff like that, but clicking on a little star, icon, everything's pretty standard here I do like that. You could search for servers. Some of the VPNs don't allow you to do that which is annoying, but I do like the server selection tab in terms of the settings. That'S pretty impressive here we have a lot of settings to configure here with the application how it behaves. You know how it launches. We also have DNS options, which is good to see. You don't really see that too often, not only that, but you also have Auto connection features split tunneling, or do you only really see that would like something like expressvpn a couple other ones, but not too popular but a cool feature, even though it sometimes wonky to Get working right, we have stealth guard which is going to you know, limit connections to VPN, so this is going to be kind of like stealth. Guard will always be active, even when I dummy is not running. All apps will block all out and going in and going traffic, so this is kind of like it's like Killswitch. It'S kind of I'm not really quite sure the difference between stealth guard and kill switch. I guess this is more like application kill switch, and this could be more like a network kill switch, perhaps not really quite sure the differentiation between these two it would be a little bit easier if they kind of explained it a little bit better. Perhaps guess specifically it's almost kind of like split tunneling and that if the VPN is connected, these apps don't have connection. So you can kind of turn off various apps and stuff like that. So these three should give you a pretty comprehensive ability to do what you want. We also have a lot of cool VPN protocols, which is very nice. You don't see that too often we have ie Open, VPN soft after VPN, which is kind of like Ike sstp. You definitely go to older one, and then we even have fallback protocols to pick. So if something fails you know or something doesn't connect right. You could pick a fallback one. So that's cool. We even have customization for the various protocols different UDP TCP, different ports to choose from, if you're having trouble accessing ports as well as customization for soft out there as well, and we even have a browser extension little tab here just to help you install it now. Another thing to note is that sometimes with VPN providers that provide a free plan, it's pretty easy to test it because they don't really put that much restrictions on it, but Jaime had restricted so many servers. It was hard to me to actually connect to any of them. Only server that worked was the best location. I couldn't get the u.s. West server to work, or anything like that, so I actually had to buy it. So, if you're looking to use this VPN for free, as you know the trial just for free, I wouldn't really recommend it. One thing you wanted to keep in mind, though, is that if you don't want to have everything be turned off when you're, using when you're, not using heidy VPN you're gon na have to disable stealth guard. So make sure you disable that if you want to exit hi, Tommy and use internet without VPN, it's just something to keep in mind. Something happened to me and something you should definitely know about all right guys, so we're starting out the speed test by doing a speed test on speedtest.net, seeing what the ping download and upload look like. Normally with our VPN, I get around 10. Ms 500 megabits per second and around 20 upload for a fast VPN provider. We could see anywhere around 250 to 300 megabits per second and upload would be around you know, 15, or something like that. So overall, this speed test looks to be doing. Okay, so far a little bit higher ping, but not too nothing too extraordinary download rate is decent, not quite ranking the fastest in terms of download rates and upload rate is looking right around where I expected around 1415 area. So, overall, not the worst speed test, pretty decent overall, not bad, but we gon na have to test what it looks like in a real world torrent download test downloading Ubuntu file. To give you an indication of what this VPN could be like for torrenting, alright guys. So now we have loaded up the file, usually here without VPN, I get 30 to 40 megabytes download rate for the files. You know some of my faster VPNs get around 25 to 30 megabytes. A second something like tor guard and expressvpn have been the in my tests. This is looking to be the a little bit faster than average and usually kind of like to slow to average VPN to get around two to three megabytes. A second, this one is inching up towards five. Almost four around there, I'm going up a little closer to five, but again - and this is just kind of decent speeds - there we go five point: two, not bad per se, but definitely not anywhere close to the fastest. Faster than a decent amount of VPNs, though we're all just kind of okay, so in terms of logs and primacy, how does hide dot me do well, they do maintain a non persistent log of connection data for troubleshooting purposes, which includes customers randomly generate a username and Internally signed a non-public IP address, they say that it gets erased every few hours and we do not log any other data to other than to mitigate their legal liability. They do not monitor or log your browsing, behavior behavior a they do not monitor or log. Your browsing behavior, it is impossible to record your browsing behavior with our technical back in all usage data is anonymous and not connected to your real public IP address upon connection termination. We process the amount of traffic you have spent, so they have. You know bandwidth logs and we account for the aggregated monthly data to traffic to build you properly in to maintain a high quality of service. So they do collect. You know kind of the standard logs that logging VPNs do perhaps nothing back concerning, but let's go ahead and look at dive a little bit deeper here into their reputation, alright, guys now that we're finished up with a speed test, let's go ahead and see if it Works with Netflix, doesn't it look like it looks like we're getting a streaming error so we'll test it with some of the other options, and let you know here in a second which ones work doesn't look like. Hulu is working and definitely disappointing. You can see here that I still have it open still connected to a server that should theoretically be working and prime video is not working either, and I also just tested BBC iPlayer, and that is also not working. That'S definitely not good, but this is a good chance to test out their customer support, see if the support can actually give us a solution so that way we could get it working looks like it's just a ticket. Strangely enough, I went on the website again and this they do fly chats, so maybe they do have cha life chance, sometimes that they might be busy or something like that. I mean we load the page. A couple times go to different pages. You might go to find it, let's go ahead and test it out. So talking to this guy about Netflix, he says they don't really seem to be working with Netflix. They say it's like a cat-and-mouse game, they're trying to get more ip's, but netflix is blocking them. So it looks like this service hasn't figured out a solution where some other VPNs have at this point in 2020. What an annoying thing is that I actually had another question but right after all, he answered this one he's just like. Oh okay, let me know if you need anything else, email us and then he just like dipped out so that's kind of disappointing. You know maybe the chats to be like hey. Do you have anything else? We can help you with I've. Seen that such a common question with live chat - and these guys just seem to dip out too quickly - look look he's still here, nevermind he's still here and he acted like he dipped out. Maybe he almost did dip out, but now he's like. Oh, this guy is still here. Let'S see what he says. So my question was: do you have any information on the site I forgot to put on about the parent company, a suti says he's like hi dummy parent company and I'm like? Yes, do you have any information about who owns the company on the site and I was taking a little while to respond, probably threw him a curveball now, while Patrick took a little while to answer me, he really did pull all the answers out. For me, he showed me the company here he showed me where its address is located. He even showed me ways to verify that it is a registered company in Malaysia, which is definitely pretty legit. I, like you, Patrick, and I like the customer service here, offered by heid. I mean all right guys so for the final rating for hide, I mean it's gon na do really well in certain categories. Application is very good. It'S super customizable has a lot of features, compares with some of the best VPN applications out there like stuff from tour guard and air VPN. However, speeds here are just kind of ok there, nothing too special a little bit faster with some other slower VPNs, but not as fast as the fastest VPNs. In terms of reputation. It'S decent. You know they do collect some logs, which is a little bit concerning a little bit more than they should. I couldn't really find too much about the company that much about you know who's behind it. It'S in Malaysia, I guess, but there wasn't really that much dirt. On it either in terms of customer support, it's actually very good as well talk to customer support agent called Patrick, who did a very good job, very responsive, and it has live chat streaming. However, you're gon na be completely that down. They don't support streaming. They didn't really seem to be able to figure out how to support streaming, so you're gon na have to watch out for that as well. Combined with the pricing and the streaming, the end result is going to be very low. It'S gon na be two point. Eight three out of five making a tier 3 VPN and not recommended for use.
