So, in a lot of places that you're going to be in the world encrypt me will have a server right beside you um, so that's always useful to have in terms of proximity and in terms of just being able to go to other spots. Now, when it comes to encryption with encrypt me uh, they do pretty well. They have the state-of-the-art 256-bit aes encryption, so you're good to go in that sense when it comes to protocols you're using openvpn, which of course gives you access to a number of other configurations. Of course, we would love to have seen wire guard one of the newer protocols, another faster protocols out there on the market today uh, but that is not yet the case with encrypt me now. The next thing we'd like to go over are the core features. Now the first thing we're going to look at is kill, switch and, yes, there's a kill, switch. Your data packets are safe, you're good to go when it comes to. You know something happening to the vpn and your stuff being exposed not going to happen now when it comes to split tunneling. Our second feature you're not going to get full access to that. So if you want a split tunnel, you might be out of luck depending on where you are and what you're doing next we look at torrenting and once again, torrenting with encrypt me is just not ideal. If that is really important to you again, you don't want to look at encrypt me. That'S just not what they're built for finally come to streaming services encrypt me does not do a ton of unblocking, so if you're trying to get around something originally or anything of that nature, uh encrypt me is probably not the vpn that you're going to want to Go with so keep that in mind if you're really trying to capture you know something that is on us. Netflix encrypt me, not the one. Let'S talk about those tests. Now i've taken a lot of tests in my life uh the bar exam being a major one. Uh and i want to just look at how they perform on tests and yeah when it comes to encrypt me, pass our webrtc leak test, our dns leak test and, let's dive into the speed test. So with encrypt me. You know all the continents, if possible, um, they don't have anything on antarctica. Yet i haven't seen that anywhere. But for africa i was able to get johannesburg and that was 139 megabits per second download speed and i was able to get 72 mega per second upload speed. So really not that bad um. You know i miss joe berg, that's a really fun place um. So that's the speeds i was getting for encrypt me just across the board. Pretty solid speeds um in that whole experience all right. So let's jump into my experience on the encrypted web application. So the first thing i have to note right off the bat that always confuses me about encrypt me when i use it again is the fact that you go into a location. So if i go into a location like let's say japan now, it says currently selected japan and you're, saying oh okay, uh that's great, but then you go to be in japan and you're not there. And why is that? Because you seem, as you say currently selected, you should be working, even if you hit done after it should work, but now you have to go in and connect and when you go and connect that is what's actually going to send you to japan. Now it's just an extra step. It'S just two steps, one plus one two, not that much, but because it's so different than everything else, i'm accustomed to. I honestly make the mistake. Far too often, maybe this is you know my uh problem of thinking, i'm in a certain private tunnel and then i go and i'm not because i haven't gone back to hit that other button and that is different than every other uh vpn that i've seen out In the market, i'm pretty sure, so that's my one thing with encrypt me when i right off the bat always bothers me about the mobile application. That being said, what i love about the mob application, so let's go back, it's a transporter and i i think that's maybe like a star trek reference um, i have a little a little enterprise i'll, bring this enterprise down uh i love star trek. I mean it's just great, but anyway i digress. So let's go ahead and see what other experiences like i can easily go in jump into. You know chechia. I can jump into hungary. I can jump into iceland and remember. I have to go back on encrypt for a second, so now i'm in iceland - i imagine i'm in raikshavik, so that's kind of how encrypted works. You go down. You transport, it's pretty cool south america. I can go to argentina. Go done. Get out of here. Go back so overall, pretty straightforward experience with encrypt me and if we go and look at our settings, you'll note that there's really not a lot else going on uh inside of here so anyway. That'S the experience that you're going to have with encrypt me. So remember it's a two-step process for joining any location, but overall, when you do get in there, it's fine, but i do think they should maybe rethink that basic functionality. In summary, encrypt me does have some things going for it uh, definitely, but in a lot of areas it's um really lacking and it's gon na be very dependent on the person. Well, that's what a vpn is going to help me to do it's going to basically set my ip address to be in another space, so a lot of utility and vpns and encrypt me does give you a respectable number of places to go. It has over 70 locations in 40 countries, so if i need to be in japan, i can be there if i need to be in new delhi mumbai. I can be there with encrypt me so really a lot of utility in that uh for me, um and, like i said, a respectable number of cities. Now, let's shift gears a bit and talk about the performance with encrypt me now, when i talk performance in this sense, i'm really talking about speed. Now, when it comes to speed with encrypt me, i want to be clear that this can be very dependent on the variables affecting you, like isp um, what you're actually using you know just anything that goes into everyday speed, even here in new york with my thios, I consistently have different speeds from day to day, and in our case we were testing this on a mac on the west coast and my iphone here on the east coast uh and of course i was using it. You know with my mac and things here in the east coast as well, but let's go ahead and dive in to those speed tests. Now, starting off with my iphone numbers here in new york, my control test, meaning without encrypt means vpn toggled on. I was able to get 135 megabytes per second download speed and 92 megabits per second upload speed. Now i went a little further north of the border to montreal, where i was able to get a download speed of 54 megabytes per second and an upload speed of 99 megabits per second, so somehow it actually increased. My speed uh from when i took that control test. When i went over to johannesburg, south africa, i got download speeds of 34 megabytes per second and upload speeds of 13 megabytes per second, so a lot of variability, as you can see on my iphone here in new york, now moving over to our imac testing on The west coast, i was able to get a control speed of 251 megabytes per second download, but just 22 megabytes per second upload. So a lot a lot of gap there uh. When i went over to paris from this location uh, we got 141 megabytes per second download speed and 21 megabytes per second upload speed. Switzerland game us 190 megabytes per second download speed and 20 megabytes per second upload speed. And finally, brazil gave us a speed of 165 megabytes per second download speed and 14 megabytes per second upload speed, as you can see, with the imac we're able to get pretty solid speeds, even while using encrypt me vpn briefly i'll talk about the plan options with Encrypt me now with encrypt me: you of course have the opportunity to buy a month pass or a year pass, but what's cool about encrypt me, it gives you the ability to buy your vpn for just a week and if you would like even more flexibility for You or those around you, they have family plans, they have team plans if you know you're part of some type of team that you know really necessitates using vpn, which is probably most teams uh. Now it's a star trek fan, i love anything called transporter, that's just kind of what i'm going to be into, and i like that. You have various options, you can go to the fastest available or you can just decide by continent where you would like to be. So. If i want to go into africa, you know uh. My brother studied in south africa visited really nice and i can switch over into south africa and now i'm connected to a johannesburg server. Now, if i were to decide to go into another space like let's say europe place, we frequent often here at security.org is paris. So let's go down to france and you know you have a couple of options when it comes to france in terms of cities where they have servers, so you have bokeh and you have paris uh and i can dive into paris and it's going to go ahead And change me over from south africa uh to france, uh inside of the encrypt me application now. Finally, uh you do have a few other spaces where you have uh different locations in terms of uh more than one city, so you of course got you know. South america and the various countries, but when it comes to multiple cities in one space, it's actually interesting that you have canada. So in canada you have montreal toronto and vancouver all available all lovely cities, so we're going to jump into montreal, which is not too far from us here in new york. Uh you'll see that now i'm connecting to that and i'm secure and for all intents and purposes my location is canada. So that's our look at the pretty bare bones: uh minimalist, let's say: uh mobile application for encrypt me now, let's check out and encrypt me on my mac, so you'll see that right at the top. It tells you what network you're connected to and from there you can decide to secure my connection, and that is going to put you into the encryptment vpn, allowing you to enable it and now you're masking your location. Now, if i wanted to see other places that i can go to from asking my location, i go to that top left hand corner and you'll see that there are a ton of different locations available to you, or at least a significant number of locations available to You so you have africa with nigerian south africa asia with about seven countries there and you'll note that india gives you a couple of different options. You have mumbai and new delhi along with you, know, japan, philippines uh generally, then you have europe, north america and what's great about the north american one is that both canada and united states give you multiple locations to dive into so i can be in montreal or Toronto or vancouver in the united states, i can be and really a lot of cities from my hometown of nashville uh to the nation's capital, to hotlanta uh, to where i actually am in new york city, and you also get a little bit of flexibility. Diversity. Um of location when it comes to where you'd like to be in australia from brisbane to melbourne, to perth uh to sydney so really like that they make it pretty straightforward. Give you that continental! Look that kind of breaks things up a bit uh in terms of what we've seen from vpns. So if you jump into the upper right hand corner where you see that gear you'll actually be able to jump into some of the advanced options and they're, you know keeping it pretty minimal, you have the ability to change your connection protocol from udp, which is a Little bit better for performance to tcp or just toggle, between the two as you see fit. So that's my look at encrypt me's mac app. So let's wrap it up today and i'll give you my final thoughts on encrypt me now. Encrypt me does a great job of allowing me gabe to be anywhere. I want to be in the world and mask my location uh, just by tapping on that toggle on and off, and i secure i encrypt i'm in a different place and that's really useful. Now is it giving me the most advanced features? No, if you're the kind of person who wants to you know have specific bittorrent server setup, a specific streaming server setup, um you're, not the target market for encrypt me. This is for the person who needs. You know access to about 40 countries who wants to be able to jump in easily and who wants to be able to. You know, use it to match their location. They do that admirably, not the most robust, comprehensive vpn out there, but if you just want to get on the internet with an unlimited number of devices, unlimited number of connections with decent speeds, uh you're gon na get that with encrypt me. So has HMA redeemed itself and it is worth your money? Perhaps more importantly, can it compete with favorites like ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and CyberGhost?

Private DNS servers: HideMyAss uses private DNS servers (owned by Avast). This is usually better from a privacy standpoint than using public servers such as those operated by Google. But the advantages are questionable in this case given the recent reports regarding Avast’s data collection program.

Using North American and European servers, I didn’t see any lag or buffering while streaming, there was no noticeable slowdown while browsing, and I was able to play online games with no issues.

HideMyAss Review: Lots of Positives but one Major Drawback

 Although HMA puts on its homepage that it’s a no-log VPN provider, this can almost immediately be proven false.  The policy states in clear language that anyone using the free HMA proxy unblocker will have their originating IP address and domain names logged, so definitely avoid the free proxy at all costs. As for the actual VPN, things aren’t as bad. It does not log your IP, DNS queries or browsing history

 The HideMyAss VPN collects benign information, for the most part, including things like connection time and the amount of data transmitted. However, we’ve found VPNs lying in their privacy policies before, as you can see in our IPVanish review.  Two major things lose HMA points in this round, the biggest of which is that it’s owned by Avast. Not too long ago, news broke that Avast was collecting and selling user data on a very large scale through its subsidiary Jumpshot

 Because that information seems to be missing from the files — or at least our computer could not find it — Windows treats the executable as an unrecognizable app and will refuse to launch it without user action. How'S it going everybody and welcome to the full review of the VPN, with probably the best name on the market hidemyass or for short HMA. It'S one of the most popular services out there and they claim they can hide your ear even Kim Kardashian's. Well, just like every other VPN review on the channel, I put them to the test in the following five categories: each rated by importance for a total score out of 5 4 stars being the recommending tech Laura proved mark. Let'S kick off with security at 40 percent. Hmas jurisdiction is based in the UK, which is in the five eyes of the 14 eyes program. Definitely a concern for some of you out there. There are logs, they store your username timestamps bandwidth, your actual IP address and the IP address of the VPN server. You connect to not a great logging policy, they do own a majority of their DNS servers, but they use Open DNS for some, which is not good for your privacy. Since Open DNS is known to collect and sell data, HMA offers Open, VPN, IPSec, l2tp and PPTP protocols. The most secure encryption being aes-256 encryption. There is no system-wide kill, switch, only a kill switch for predetermined programs, a big concern for any security minded individuals, HMA changed. My IP address and it passed the Heights or DNS leak test and the DNS leak test, calms, DNS leak test. Lastly, I do have to mention that a hacker got caught from the FBI after hidemyass handed over the users information you do have to remember that they do keep logs, and if the FBI is asking for logs from any company, they are going to hand them over. If this bugs you look for a service with an O log policy, after adding up all the pros and cons, HMA came out with two and a half stars on security. Security itself is actually pretty strong on hidemyass, where they really fell off was in privacy. Their extensive use of logs their jurisdiction, and also their previous track record makes it a not very private option. Next, up is speed worth 20 percent HMA had a server very close to me, which offered no drop-off. In my ping, however, my download speeds decreased on average by a little over 18 percent and uploads by almost seven percent. These speeds are far from great but they're, not awful from my testing. They scored almost exactly the same as expressvpn giving hidemyass a score of three stars out of five. Let'S move on to the settings and customization for a mere five percent. Hma is the most minimal least customizable program I have yet to ever review. They offer an auto start and connect when Windows boots up basic Wi-Fi, customization, a TCP option and a manual kill switch for individual programs and that's it now. I'M gon na discuss the lack of customization later on in the video, because it's not necessarily a bad thing for every user out there. However, when it comes to raw customization, they're gon na score one and a half out of five stars because they offer such a small selection now, let's discuss their usage worth 15 %. The windows program is very minimal, easy to use and gets the job done in a simple manner. There'S really not much more to say, however, a complaint I have is that you can't resize the window which sucks on a 4k monitor. I won't deduct for that, but please fix this. It'S gon na drive anyone over 40 completely insane for Linux. They do have a command-line interface, which I guess it's better than managing hundreds of profiles using Open VPN, but it's still not the greatest experience. I do, however, appreciate the CLI effort. The Android app is surprisingly even more minimal than the Windows client offering a whopping three settings. One of them is an IP shuffle, though something actually pretty useful and makes me wonder why it's not on any of their other clients. Also, I am NOT happy the data collection settings are enabled by default without prompting you I'd, recommend you, privacy, oriented users immediately disabling these iOS really brings at home, offering exactly one setting and the same to data collection settings which I'd recommend you disable torrenting. On the other hand, is kind of a dicey topic, there seems to be some censorship towards what you can download, which is a very valid concern, but there is nothing of fish stating that they blocked torrents or even enough evidence for me to assume they do so. I can't officially mark off for this, but do keep in mind that there are quite a few users who have come out saying that their torrents have been throttled or cut out altogether. To summarize usage, normally I subtract one star for offering no Linux client. However, HMA does offer partial Linux support with their CLI program, so I'm going to subtract half a star for no Linux support. They really did take minimalism to an absolute extreme as much as I don't like it. I'M sure tons of users out there love it. Four and a half out of five stars. Lastly, stability at 20 %. I used it for a few days and had absolutely no issues. No bugs no crashes, no leaks. I guess that data collection is definitely paying off 5 out of 5 stars all right before I give you guys the final calculated score. There are a few more things I want to mention about hidemyass that I think are important to share. They allow up to 5 simultaneous devices a pretty standard amount. There are at least 870 servers and about 190 countries as of today, making it one of, if not the largest country selection, of any VPN I've reviewed on the channel price-wise. They are not cheap. A cheapest plan is $ 6.99 per month for a 12 month plan. I did find this Firefox add-on, but it's from 2015 and there is no mention of it on their website. So I'd stay well away from this and, lastly, they offer a guaranteed 30 day money back policy yeah, that's great, no there's a giant asterisk as long as you haven't gone over ten gigabytes of data usage or 100 sessions, both of which can probably easily be done In a week's time, very sketchy refund policy. Indeed, so adding up everything HMA ended up scoring 3.35, which rounds up to 3.4 out of 5, so it is not tech, lore approved. My thoughts are that the server is geared towards the absolute simple oriented users who want the easiest, most minimal experience out there for a VPN. That'S honestly, it speeds aren't great for downloading your gaming. Security is not good for your security users out there and customization is pretty weak, but if you want a very simple experience for just maybe general web browsing HMA does offer a decent option for you.
