Hi, I'm new to using a VPN on linux. I've used nord before but i got rid of them over privacy concerns. I've tried using mullvad but they only run through systemd on linux. Most other VPNs don't seem to come close to IVPN. so they're the ones I've chosen, but I'm having problems using them on my computer. Whether through the command line or through GUI. I emailed their customer service and it seems like I have to basically build it myself, but i have no idea how to do that, but the best way so far in following the links he sent me in the email would seem to be through an app which is my preferred way of doing things if possible. The link takes me to github where it tells me the first step i have to do is create a folder. When i try to create the folder it tells me Directory separator illegal in file name which i believe is /. Isn't that required? Once i create the folder what do i put in it?

Does anyone have recommendations for a VPN service that's similar to EVPN? Something that doesn't log anything, and is outside of the 14 eyes?

I have to say, I'm beyond disappointed in ExpressVPN's choices with this. The optics of this acquisition are awful for them.


Alternatives to ExpressVPN in preparation for Kape Technologies acquisition?

Will getting a vpn now for "downloading" games protect me after being tracked once by the ISP?

If so, which VPN is the most reliable. I was thinking Cyberghost as it is said to have a policy of no logging. 

Currently living in the USA. Since my ISP company is spectrum, how many warning letters before spectrum cuts off the internet? 

In case a VPN is still reliable, is it safe to hide your IP address in the same country (USA) or is it a safer approach to do it from a distant country (disregarding the penalties of the download speed) ?

Lots of people on reddit like Mullvad and iVPN, and for good reasons!

They are two of some of the best private vpns out there. Both VPNs collect no logs, have 0 trackers, and clean reputations.

However, that said, both of these services DO have weaknesses, and you won't find many people on reddit talking about them since they use them.

The main use case for these VPNs is STRICTLY privacy. But even some other VPNs can compete with privacy backends and still offer other things. One other benefit is that both of these VPNs have no affiliate programs. 

I made a video comparing some of my top 2 vpns vs Mullvad and iVPN. Both of these VPNs are top notch for torrenting since they are fast, support port forwarding, have socks 5 proxies (get amazing speeds without needing to always connected to VPN) and have no DMCA issues in their past. TG even has an app level kill switch and script controls which can be combined to do really cool things with torrent apps (such as closing it down when TG closes or opening it when TG opens).

TL;DW

-Both TorGuard and WeVPN are underrated VPNs that have few compromises but huge upsides. You can also get them for cheap with promo codes listed in the video. Both VPNs have wireguard, port forwarding, socks 5, no dmca requests, no logs, and TG has 0 trackers on the website + applications.

-Both TG and WeVPN DO have affiliate programs, but they are modest commissions--nothing compared to the likes of Nord, Express, and some other VPNs. If someone buys one month of TorGuard, the reviewer only makes $1. If someone buys 1 month of ExpressVPN, the reviewer makes $13. The bonus of these affiliate programs is that a portion of the money goes to honest VPN reviewers, some of the money is given back to you (in the form of a discount), and the rest goes to the VPN. 

-Mullvad can get expensive long-term since month to month is the only payment option.

-iVPN is generally just a pricey VPN, and to get all the features you have to pay extra (as much as ExpressVPN).

-Both VPNs are lacking some compatibility things like browser extensions, and firestick apps.

-Both VPNs don't work particularly well for unblocking geo-restrictions or streaming services.

-Whille Mullvad offers socks5, iVPN doesn't and neither service offers extra unique things like dedicated ips, private email, or other useful addons like encrypted DNS, data breach detector, or smart DNS options.


Are mullvad and iVPN the best vpns?

IVPN is a good one as well but, their prices really put many off from their service.

I just renewed my expressvpn before reading about Kape acquisition. Fuck that. Nord seems to be the only alternative option I know for netflix and streaming sites.

Which one do you use for streaming sites?

I'm on IVPN now as my primary mostly due to this chart and my only gripes are:It's expensive compared to the others, at $100 a year. I've never seen it go cheaper than this in any sales of any kind.Some sites like Google will mark you as a bot and force captchas for searches, probably due to its userbase and their shared IPs.Comparatively fewer servers compared to popular VPNs like PIA and TorGuard

iVPN's Windows and OSX clients have the best leak protection that I've seen. I have not managed to make them leak.Edit: I do freelance for them, by the way.

 I got an immediate response from an engineer which addressed my complaint in detail (poor port forwarding setup), and even gave me a timeline for when they were going to fix it. And they did fix it! The port forwarding is great, now.Also, since this does matter a lot: I have a 100 Mbps connection, and I get between 50-80 Mbps through almost all of their servers, barring understandably slow countries like Hong Kong.Oh, also, they have multihop, and you select your own entry and exit server from among their pool
