 The only bad thing is, it doesn't have socks 5 proxy support, so that is also a little bit of downfall there. The the best thing about ovpn, probably, is the company behind it and their privacy practices. They do probably one of the best scoring um in terms of privacy audits, we've seen here on the channel. They only really need to implement better two-factor authentication methods beyond that, though, they have open source analytics, they pass the blacklight test, pass the exodus test, they don't collect

 So, even though the score isn't as high as some other vpns out there on the list right now, like atlas vpn pro proton, ipvanish express nord and some of those ones that have higher scores. Slow DNS performance (Windows) really starting to annoy me

I successfully configured my new ASUS router allowing me to use NordVPN via OpenVPN configuration.  It works, but I can't determine how/if I can change to location of the server in the US I'm connected to or even how to tell what server I'm connected to using OpenVPN installed on the router.  It allows me to select a country to get the OpenVPN config file for, but appears to provide me a random server config.

I'd like to be able to connect to a server in NY/Connecticut most of the time, but sometimes I need to connect to a Seattle server.  Need to be able to do this via VPN on my router versus a computer/phone running the NordVPN app.  

Thanks in advance.  Not technical enough in this area to figure it out myself or even know if it is possible with NordVPN using OpenVPN on my ASUS router.  I searched other posts, but didn't see this answered.

NordVPN is a bunch of retards.

There, I said it.

After the “no US servers will connect” problem on 3.12.0, I found that if you log into it via nordaccount (OAuth) then it will let you connect to US servers again.

Today, their apt repo offered 3.12.1, and under that version, no US servers are available no matter how you log in. It goes back to logging you into another country and limiting you to that country’s servers for an entire day, and then picking another country, apparently, like 3.12 does if you use username/password.

I downgraded to 3.12.0 and now I can log in over nordaccount and use US servers.

This is a scary level of incompetence from a VPN provider. I’m probably going to set my subscription in the Play store to not automatically renew. There’s a no-refund policy after you’ve used it for 30 days, so I’m stuck with them for a while, but I’m switching VPNs again next year if they don’t cut the crap.

Edit: For those who don't follow my blog, last time I contacted NordVPN, the tech support agent was unaware that systemd-journald exists and wanted me to run commands as root on my home folder.

Currently, my setup is to use expressvpn on the system, and  in docker, qbittorrent is how I torrent. Additionally, I run  plex server off of my pi. I have port forwarded my plex server, however when the VPN is on, the server is offline. Expressvpn won't allow port forwarding on Linux, and my router doesn't have its support. 

So I'm looking for a vpn where I can port forward my plex server, and still be covered in my other docker container that houses qbittorrent.

Now ovpn was a pretty high rated vpn in my last tier list. It'S a really cool company and a good product in a lot of ways, but this new 2.0 system is very strict. Um we're going to see ovpn do extremely well in some areas and in other areas not do that. Well at all. So just kind of take this review with um, depending on your use case. You know it could be a very good product or might not be the right product for you. So take that consideration. If you guys want to use my recommended products, i would recommend s-tier products that are the best combination of pricing, speeds, performance and stuff like that. You'Ll find those on the tier list of vpnterlist.com on vpn serialist 2.0. Is the new rating system we're doing vpn? Interiors 1.0 is fully complete, perhaps like 70 vpns reviewed and still good source of information there too, and you can also find some uh recommended affiliates in the description below that. I recommend you guys to use to further enhance your security and privacy anyways guys, let's get into the review right now, so guys, ovpn's pricing policy is as follows. For one month it's around eleven dollars which is more expensive than what we're looking for. We like to be six to ten dollars under ten dollars. Um six months is going to be around forty one point. It also has a kill switch, which is good. That said, it is lacking some other things, namely ad blocking split tunneling fire stick support. It also doesn't have support for linux, ui dns controls, sox5 proxy or dedicated ip support, so it is missing some of those compatibility things. I think it does nail the fundamentals and has a decent application um, but could use some extra oomph for some of those things. People might be looking for all right guys, so we are now connected to ovpn and we're going to be doing a live, speed test now. Remember, if you don't see a live, speed test on other channels or websites, chances are the speed test could be faked or pushed to fit some kind of narrative to recommend you a more expensive, more profitable, affiliate related vpn instead of the one they're actually reviewing. So that's why we always do live speed tests here on the channel to show you unbiased results and real speed tests. Um right now, ovpn is not really loading. The speed test, i'm not really sure why it does seem like we have some kind of connection um. Let'S go ahead and reload the page and see if it works, then um see if it works. Now we are still connected. So for some reason i couldn't get speedtest.net to work with ovpn. I'M not really sure why that would be so we're going to be trying another reliable website um. I usually kind of like to use the same website to get the same kind of benchmarks. Uh speedtest.net does seem to give me usually pretty good speed results um, even though i'm not a huge fan of the ownership of the website. So here we have obpn, and this is kind of the speeds we're getting. One thing i've noticed with this website is that we do get slower megabits per second than speedtest.net. I'M not sure what that is um, but these are the current speeds um. So it is a little bit hard for me to kind of judge this metric against the other speed tests uh. We might try to do another speed test on speedtest.net to see what kind of speeds we can get. So i am going to load that up again to see if it works um. It does not seem to be connecting for some reason. So, let's go ahead and move on to the torn test. All right since that speed, test.net test did not work. We are now doing the torrent test, ideally for a very fast vpn we'd like to see see anywhere between, like 50 to 90 megabytes, a second download and right now with uh ovpn we're seeing a decent performance, but nothing topped here yet um right around this peak Was pretty good if we hadn't seen a more consistent peak going up from here onward? That would be really good. Okay, that's not bad! We got a good peak there. Around 45 56 is very solid, 54 very nice. So we are seeing more that consistency now um. Overall, these 60 - that's pretty good. So overall, this speed test is actually not too bad. We haven't seen quite the sun peaks that we've seen with some other vpns up in the 90s 70s, but overall, 40 to 50 is still very solid, um. So, overall, not bad speeds from ovpn um, not like five out of five, but still pretty good. I'M gon na give them four to five for this speed test and maybe something like uh. It'S a little hard for me to judge that speed test because we couldn't get it working with speedtest.net, not really sure on that one. That'S a design at the end of the review. So guys, probably one of the best things about ovpn is that they have a very solid company. I'Ve even interviewed the guy himself, who runs the company david, really cool dude, who really seems to care about privacy, and it shows in the back end of this business. You can see here from the blacklight ovpn passes it with flying colors, not having anything tracking you on their website, which is amazing. Hardly any vpn so far have been able to pass this really. Definitely a trusted vpn provider, really the only improvement. I could see with ovpn is that they could add more two-factor authentication methods on their website. They do kind of have some token method where you can't really create a support request without some kind of token. But i don't know if that's quite the same as two-factor authentication with the website. They do have a lot of like captures and things like that to prevent, like brute force, probably um. So that is good um, but i think more two-factor authentication methods would give them a perfect score in the privacy audit. Overall, though, a really good job here, so it does appear that ovpn has live chat, but during normal psd hours it doesn't seem like they are working, which is a little bit odd um. I would like to see a little bit more better performance. There don't know if i can really too much points for live chat, because this is like the basic hours, but for you, people in europe, maybe you'll get a little bit of experience there with that live chat, so gon na have to kind of give them a Little bit of a mixed score there and we'll have to see how quickly they respond to our support ticket. Unfortunately, ovbn does not seem to be working with hulu. It also doesn't work with netflix. As i can't see the green zone, i did make sure to enable the streaming service functionality within the client, but that still did not get me access to any other streaming services. This is just showing me netflix originals, so that's definitely a little bit disappointing. In the past, uh ovpn has worked with some streaming providers, so i'm gon na make sure to test them all just to make sure here. The good news is it's not broken with all of them. It does work with amazon, prime. However, it doesn't seem to be working with hbo now, as i am getting a server error and, lastly, just around things out, it doesn't work with bbc iplayer either, unfortunately, so guys, thanks for making it to the end of this ovpn review i've given them their fair Share of criticism here in this content, but i think they are overall, a good company. Is it the right product for you? Well, maybe not in terms of pricing. It is a little bit pricey um, but i do like how they don't have any tricks and stuff. Like that, the company itself also has like an honest way of talking about its product, not overselling it, which i really do like. For example, if we look at the support section, you can even find an introduction email that they say flat out. We don't offer 24 7 support, but when they do answer your tickets, it's going to be someone who actually knows what they're talking about that's kind of a refreshing take, and i do like that about them. They do have live chat but not tons of hours. So i gave them a little bit points there, but not full points, because in the pst doesn't seem to be operating during that kind of normal time period. For me, which is a little disappointing, we also didn't get a support ticket within one hour. So that's also something to consider for people who are extremely unpatient um impatient. Another thing is: is they're not really that reliable for streaming as of right now, it seems like most of the major providers are blocked with ovpn, and i would be cautious to say that they're going to fix it really soon, um, traditionally, ovpn hasn't really um worked With every streaming provider in the past - and i don't think they're going to be able to fix that really quickly, so it's definitely something to consider if you're someone looking for a really good streaming vpn provider, even though the website itself does kind of market it. As such, it wasn't working right now in my tests. Fortunately, other areas ovpn does pretty well, it's actually a pretty fast vpn for torrenting, getting decent speeds, not top tier but pretty close to it and the, and it also does have port forwarding. So that means it is a pretty good torrent, vpn provider um. The only bad thing is, it doesn't have socks 5 proxy support, so that is also a little bit of downfall there. The the best thing about ovpn, probably, is the company behind it and their privacy practices. They do probably one of the best scoring um in terms of privacy audits, we've seen here on the channel. They only really need to implement better two-factor authentication methods beyond that, though, they have open source analytics, they pass the blacklight test, pass the exodus test, they don't collect. Logs, um they've been tried and true, and not giving away data or had a data leaks. No company acquisitions, it's run by a very small team of guys that are pretty cool. So overall ovpn is one of the lower vpn vpn providers here on the tier list, actually, probably the lowest one rated so far 27.28. This is partly due to its streaming compatibility. Not being very good, the high price point um and the application, which is very basic outside of that, though, it is a good vpn if you value privacy - and you want a pretty good vpn for torrenting. So, even though the score isn't as high as some other vpns out there on the list right now, like atlas vpn pro proton, ipvanish express nord and some of those ones that have higher scores. I do think ovpn, for me is a kind of more of a preferred product with how they do things they just kind of aren't that big of a company - and there are some downfalls um due to that, i think um. So the first thing we always check out is going to be pricing and ovp n looks to be kind of interesting here. Firstly, they don't really offer two or three year plans, which isn't usually the worst thing. I prefer VPNs have good pricing for lower commitment models so that way, if you don't like the VPN you're, not stuck with it, unfortunately, here 11 dollars it's a little bit pricey, I would say: 10 dollars is more of the standard price. Anything below 10 dollars is a pretty good price. In my opinion, now twelve months for $ 84 isn't horrible, but I would say $ 60.00 for twelve months is more of what I would consider. The standard VPN price $ 50 for six months is expensive as well. So this isn't as expensive as expressvpn, which is thirteen dollars $ 100 for twelve months or something like a VPN which is fifteen dollars a month and even more for a year. But it's definitely not as cheap as stuff. Like tor guard code with discount code, Tom spark five dollars a month, thirty dollars a year, even air VPN is around seven dollars a month and cheaper for a year as well. So it's not gon na be the cheapest VPN. It'S not gon na be the most expensive VPN, maybe somewhere a little bit more expensive than the average VPN like I said. Additionally, this VPN does look to be a little bit smaller, with only 76 servers in 12 countries, not a ton of servers, so we're gon na see how speeds are. I mean you get four simultaneous device use which is okay again, a five is more standard for ten dollars a month, so you're getting a little bit less and paying a little bit more here. In my opinion, stuff, like tor guard recently, has simultaneous connections, and I mentioned it is cheaper. So again, remember that 10 day, money-back guarantee, isn't that good, either at some VPNs offer thirty to forty day, money-back guarantees so a little bit limited as well. Here all right guys, so let's go ahead and move on to the next section and testing out the application and then we'll call on speeds and other categories all right guys. It looks like my payment has been received, so let's go ahead and start it up. Alright guys, so this is what a VPNs application looks like. We have kind of like a weird interface here, it's kind of like a lot of empty room down there. I can really adjust it. Let'S see no looks like he came back. I guess you can't choose best server automatically or you that's usually pretty nice again. I kind of noticed there's a limited selection of servers, but they might be fast. We can a fast, that's what I meant to say now. Fash Killswitch disconnected so these are some just kind of showing you what things are working not to clear about how to get this stuff working, no account okay and count. So it's kind of weird that they put the settings in the account page usually sits under settings or something so we have a kill, switch DNS leak. What is DNS crypt, the open, VPN client and they would use Dena script together with DNS servers, so it prevents a man-in-the-middle attacks. They also have IP six Miss compression, so compression could increase speeds, but also have security issues, high resolution. So with 4k, that's good to see and some more Auto connection features, so we do have some interesting features here. I haven't seen before, like compression Dinah's crypt, I'm not sure how useful they are really. So I think, if a VPN really wanted to kind of up the ante a little bit, they might add some stuff like the ability to kind of change. What kind of protocols you could use. It looks like it's really just using Open VPN here. No support for IP to or any other kind of protocols you could play around with they could customize your ability to change the port. It doesn't look like you could configure that really here too, just in case your your VPN connection might be blocked. That'S they seem like too much of an option here. We don't see that much stealth VPN settings here or ad blocking advanced DNS customization. We have a little bit here: DNS crypt, which is cool not really much proxy support or custom server support for streaming servers, or anything like that. So, overall, it's a decent application, pretty easy to use and the layouts not too bad. But you know it could have some more features to boot. So the first time that I try to connect the O VPN, I actually couldn't get it to connect the kill, switch actually activated, but it doesn't seem to be connecting yet all the automatic servers. Sometimes this is a problem with the kind of more finicky wonky VPNs, so I actually did get ovp an up and running and it seemed like the problem was that in the account settings that automatically checks activate ipv6 looking on there troubleshooting, I was able to find That this could be one of the reasons why there is an error. So if solve that problem, I definitely think that that shouldn't be automatically enabled, especially since it could have contributed to errors, and I think one reason I actually stopped checking out OB pin in the past is because I actually probably did get an error back then, and Was just I got kind of not interested in even reviewing the product just because it didn't seem to be working, so it definitely can give a bad impression on the product if the wrong settings are connected, that can contribute to errors so something the team might want To look into anyways guys onto the next section testing out a VPN speeds a once. I got it connected, provided pretty good speed results and nothing out of this world, but quite solid. Around 100 megabits per second and a good upload rate. Latency was a little bit: bigger than average, usually should be around 19 m/s with a VPN, sometimes with VPN. I don't get much increase in speed, but here we did get a little bit increase in speed, however, nothing to bat. So now we are doing a PTP download with a Ubuntu file testing out the speeds. So far, it looks like it's gon na be just kind of middle of the line fluctuating between 2 to 4, more, like around 2.5 megabytes, a second a little bit faster there at 3.5. Nothing too fast, though, with some of the fastest VPN is like tour guard and expressvpn, and we get up to around 10 megabytes a second or so so that could be one. So those are some of the best speeds. You can get this one, however, with ovp n doesn't look to be that fast, maybe a tiny bit faster than the lower end of VPN speeds, but nothing that good. So in terms of ovp ins reputation, it looks to be pretty solid. They do not collect any activity or log anything when connected to the VPN service, which is not always the case with VPN providers. Sometimes they connect collect the connection logs and bandwidth hogs and various things like this, but ovp n. It looks to be pretty sawed in this department. Just testing out a simple server does seem to come up with a Netflix proxy error, which is definitely a bummer or maybe we could test out some more servers or maybe contact support, see if they've any answers for us, but usually not a very good sign. Alright guys, thanks for making it to the final review section, so a VPN is gon na get a 2.7 out of 5 and not making it to tier 2. The usable recommended section at tier 3 is not gon na, be that recommended for use, and why is that? Well, as you seen from this review, a VPN is a little bit more expensive than average application. It just kind of feels a bit average speeds are pretty good in speed tests, but not that good in overall torrent, download tests. Reputation here is fine. I couldn't find anything bad about it and they don't collect logs, which is very good. I'M support 2.5 out of 5 just because they don't have live chat and it's pretty standard update a day later, you'll get a response, or so the next night or whatever and streaming compatibility I reached out to the team and, as you could see, they don't supply Netflix or streaming options, which is definitely a bit of a letdown, so so many B pin providers do at least provide some options. So the team says they will try to encourage and update more streaming compatibility in the future. But it's added of this review. It doesn't have any stream compatibility which definitely hurts it and drives it down into tier 3, not really recommended for you territory overall guys. This isn't the worst VPN it could have more servers. Hey guys, what's up today, we're taking out goose VPN a VPN. I'Ve heard some good things about, however, today we're gon na check it out see if it's really worth using. Now it's not as popular some of the other options out there and then limited plan is pretty pricy around $ 13 five cents more expensive and it's expressvpn, which is one of the most expensive VPNs that I sometimes recommend so guys it does seem like they have Live chat on the website, which is cool, and it is interesting that they offer a 50 gigabyte plant for $ 3 a month now, 50 gigabytes isn't really a ton if you're gon na be doing everything on your internet, but it's a decent amount considerably more than A free trial website looks okay, but some of these images right here, as you can see, are blown up to big, suggesting that this VPN might not have a lot of polish and pizzazz so checking it out here does give you a discount code, which is cool And I actually ended up checking out and getting a free month free, but unfortunately, as you'll find out through the end of this review. So I'm not even sure that was worth my time. So I went ahead and downloaded the application. After checking out, everything went pretty well, there. Logging in was pretty simple as well, using the same credentials that I used to login and create an account on the website which I, like. I don't really like VPNs that give you several emails for different logins or super case-sensitive log, logins and stuff like that, can be confusing goose, VPN, no problem so far now checking out the servers. Ah, they do have some limited options here, not of ton o servers available around the world, but you can kind of customize which one you want to connect to in the settings and it is cool to see that they do have streaming options now. Settings are a little bit briefer than some other full-fledged VPNs that I've tested out in my top tier rankings like torge or private Internet access and maybe ipvanish. However, settings here are pretty competent and pretty good with kill switches. Auto connect features the ability to change your protocol and so on. However, you're not gon na have some advanced things like changing your encryption rate or perhaps some observation techniques that can hide your VPN use. Keep that in mind guys when you're checking out goofs VPN, but overall it's a decent, looking app a little orange and a little color scheme is a little tacky and maybe the text doesn't pop enough. But overall it's not the worst app I've ever seen from a VPN, but now guys really. The kicker here is that I couldn't get goose VPN to work. Now I really wanted to go over all the things about Goose VPN. I like before nailing it in the coffin, but guys I just can't get it to work or connect at all. This resulted in me trying a few different servers. Restarting my computer quitting and exiting Goose VPN, but no matter what I did. I encountered IP errors, as you see here, so guys at goose. Vpn might not be worth checking out at all due to that me not being able to get it to work and suggesting that you also might have similar issues, but guys there are a lot of VPNs out there that work 100 % of the time some VPNs, Like Noor VPN, it works sometimes since sometimes not, but I would suggest going for VPN that you know is going to work a hundred percent of the time anyways guys.
