I'm sure other providers have this feature, but TorGuard has an app-kill feature that will terminate an app if you lose your connection, and it can turn off your internet adapter if you aren't connected (logged in) to a server.
I've been with Torguard for years but they've got so many damn glitches and bugs and seem unwilling to deal with them. It's uncomfortable where security is concerned.
Get a VPN with “no logging”, I use IPVanish. Stay away from ruTorrent, I like Qbittorrent myself. Consider not even using a VPN and going with a Usenet account and subscribing to private trackers. That is guaranteed to not get busted
TorGuard's speeds work very well for me. For reference, I'm in western Canada and my line is 1gpbs down and \~105mbps up, which TG practically matches w/ [904 down and 102 up](https://imgur.com/a/uijtasL)
